When curating an outfit accessories have the ability to up the ante on any outfit and give it that extra flair. For myself rings have recently become that particular accessory that always gives my outfit that much needed flair! Finding the right ring that fits well, is versatile and suits your tastes can be hard task so when the opportunity arose to create my custom made ring in a fun workshop with some of Ireland’s top jewellers I jumped on it.
This fun hands on workshop is run in The Collective Dublin by Silver Works Dublin located at 24 Drury Street, Dublin, Ireland, 2. The ring making workshop is perfect for ring lovers, couples, friends or anyone who wants to learn how to create one and anyone who would love an insight into the trade.
Here’s a step by step guide of how we made our rings. It’s a fun hands on interactive workshop so if you are into that then this is for you.
Step – 1 Start off by marking your silver to the length you require by choosing which finger you would like it on.
Step 2 – Then, you’ll use a handsaw to cut it to size.
Step – 3 Next, you’ll learn how to form the ring, using a mallet to shape it to the ring mandrel.
Step 4 – You’ll watch as it is soldered in front of you by an expert tutor—all the time she will explain exactly what she is doing.
Step 5- Then you’ll learn to file it by using different hand files—this is fun, as it is when you get to individualize your ring, deciding what curve you would like it to have. This can make a great difference to the end result.
Step 6 – Next, you’ll choose from three very different textures. You get to use your creativity with the planishing hammer to achieve the texture you require. People love this part as it’s when you make your ring truly individual.
Step 7 – Finally you get to choose your polish. Some people like it polished only on the inside, to give it an artistic/rustic look. Others like the glittery sparkle of a fully polished ring. It’s your decision.
Then the best bit—you get to keep your ring!
Huge thanks to the guys over at The Collective Dublin store – Cosmic Boulevard and Silver Works Dublin for a night of insight into the trade, learning to make our own unique rings and for a great night!
